We have many different varieties here at Gold Barn Blueberries! Here you can get to know them all. Each variety is different in terms of taste, size, firmness, when they are ready for picking and more! We are sure there is a blueberry out there that you will love! Why do we have so many different kinds? Because we love blueberries! We just could not pick one variety. Here at the Gold Barn the varieties all cost the same to U-Pick so you can mix and match.
When you arrive for the U-Pick, our friendly and knowledgeable staff with give you directions on what variety we are picking and where to find it. Our in-season varieties are marked with color coated and labeled flags to help you find the best picking.
Early Blue
The Early Blue are our earliest variety. They are small to medium in size and are very sweet. They are also considered a softer berry so they would not travel well on your cross-country road trip. These would be great for a delicious blueberry pie however.
Dukes
Dukes are next in line for ripening. These are medium on average in size and are a firm berry with a crunch. These are also milder in flavor. These are great for a fruit salad and for traveling long distance.
Collins
Our Collins are another early season berry. These are a sweet berry and are also a softer berry. These would be great for a pie but not for traveling long distance.
Spartins
Our Spartins are another early season berry. These are sweet in their own unique way. You just have to taste them to find out. These are a softer berry so best suited a blueberry pie, not for long distance travel. We only have two rows of these so when they are ripe, they are ready to go and do not last too long!
Blue Crop
One of our most popular berries! Blue Crop are medium to large in size on average. For taste, we like to think of them like a tangy sweet berry. You just have to try them for yourself! These are best for a fruit salad, a dessert, or a pie. These are ok for traveling. These are a mid-season berry, but we usually have them until the end of our season.
Blue Ray
Another very popular berry and sometimes called the "dessert berry". These are known to be very large in size and very sweet. These would taste amazing in your next baking project. These are also a very soft berry and not recommended for traveling at all. These are a mid season berry but we usually have them until the end of our season.
Berkley
This is an older and lesser known variety but one that is very much loved by our customers. These are known for their very round shape, large size, and unique sweet taste. These are a softer berry and not well suited for traveling. these are a mid to late season berry.
Pemberton
A unique berry! Our Pemberton are a very sweet berry but also very small. These are also very soft and have a very short shelf life. We recommend either eating baking, or freezing these the day they are picked. These are a mid to late season berry.
Draper
One of our most popular berries. Our Draper are usually large, firm, and have a unique mild taste. These are the best for traveling. These are a late season berry.
Jersey
Yes! We have Jerseys. We are willing to bet that your grandparents or great grandparents remember picking these when they were kids. This variety has been around for a very long time. Jerseys are a sweet to mild tasting berry that are small in size. These are a late season berry.
Ruble
